The Best of British Engineering – From Planes To Cars

Bristol Cars Limited has been manufacturing luxury cars to aircraft standards since 1946

The Car Division of the Bristol Aeroplane Company was formed in 1946. It has been known to the public as Bristol Cars, and remains the last remaining descendant of the aircraft company to bear the name ‘Bristol’.

Bristol has been building cars in traditional coach built fashion since that day. Originally an innovative manufacturer, it became the last bastion of traditional bespoke coach-built luxury cars, until such an approach became uneconomic in 2011 without large scale investment.

Bristol Cars Ltd and Bristol Car Services Ltd are currently (March 2020) in liquidation.

The history of Bristol Cars is the history of British manufacturing from the second world war, with a magnificent blend of artisanship, engineering, dogged determination and the pursuit of function over form.
